About the position

As a Walmart Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing and transforming vast amounts of data to support data science initiatives. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and maintain data pipelines that enable Data Scientists and Analysts to derive actionable insights from Walmart's extensive data sets. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to solve complex challenges and contribute to the evolution of the retail business model, ultimately enhancing customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply data strategy principles to business problems.
  • Extract data from databases and create data pipelines for transformation.
  • Support data source identification and perform initial data quality checks.
  • Analyze complex data elements and contribute to data modeling efforts.
  • Write code to develop solutions and application features, including testing and deployment.
  • Translate business problems into data-related solutions and recommend methods for resolution.
  • Provide business recommendations and develop business cases for projects.
  • Establish and document data governance practices and educate others on them.
  • Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling.
  • Oversee tasks of less experienced programmers and provide troubleshooting support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 3 years of experience in software engineering, or 5 years of experience in software engineering, or a Master's degree in Computer Science with 1 year of experience in software engineering.
  • 2 years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • Strong experience with Spark Scala, SQL, Hadoop, and cloud environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Python/PySpark, Java, Backend, J2EE.
  • Familiarity with data modeling and data migration protocols.
  • Experience with GCP and data warehousing.
  • Knowledge of integration tools like Automic and Airflow.
