About the position

The Senior Data Engineer role within Amazon's Global Logistics Product team is a high-impact position focused on designing, implementing, and delivering large-scale data solutions. This role aims to transition core data pipelines from manual processes to scalable CDK-based solutions, enhancing data capabilities for self-service analysis and dashboards. The position involves collaboration across teams, mentoring junior engineers, and staying updated with the latest data technologies to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust and scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various production sources into our data lake and warehouse.
  • Scale self-service tools to the broader organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify strategic opportunities for improvements in data infrastructure and analytics.
  • Mentor and lead other data engineers, driving best practices in data engineering and operational excellence.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest data technologies and architectures, and proactively recommend innovations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
  • Experience mentoring team members on best practices
  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements and describe data modeling decisions
  • Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing data sets from multiple sources
  • Experience with AWS Tools (CDK, Maestro, Glue, Lambda, S3, SNS, IAM Roles, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics experience
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent
  • Experience operating large data warehouses
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
