About the position

The Marketing Applied Sciences team at General Motors (GM) is dedicated to developing analytics-driven solutions that empower GM organizations to achieve their business objectives. As a member of this multi-disciplinary team, you will engage in the design, development, and deployment of analytic models that support various business-facing analytic groups. The team's focus is on both advanced analytics strategy and applied, project-based solutions, particularly in the company's most critical business areas. In the role of Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building analytical data sets that support Advanced Analytics projects. This position requires close collaboration with innovative Researchers and Data Scientists to deliver value aligned with GM's vision for the future. The role is designed for individuals who are ready to contribute to a forward-thinking team that is at the forefront of data engineering and analytics. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with the MAS team to develop data products for analytics solutions, ensuring compliance with data privacy and security policies, and driving the adoption of cloud-first technologies. You will also automate data processes, stay updated with emerging trends in Data Engineering, and foster a culture of continuous learning within the team and the broader data engineering community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the MAS team functions to develop data products for analytics solutions.
  • Design and develop data products that comply with data privacy and security policies to protect sensitive data.
  • Drive the adoption of cloud-first technologies and industry-standard Data Engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data governance, data architecture, release management, Data Ops & ML Ops, and infrastructure.
  • Automate new and existing data processes, eliminating manual effort to gather and ingest data.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in Data Engineering and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and development within the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience delivering enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions using modern hybrid cloud technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with experience analyzing and curating large scale customer event data products.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard Data Engineering practices including data privacy & security, ETL/ELT, and data quality assurance.
  • Expert programming skills in data and analytics platforms, big data processing frameworks, and languages including Azure, Databricks, Spark, Python, SQL, and GitHub.
  • Effective communication and people skills to collaborate with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Naturally curious with the ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
