About the position

The Senior Data Engineer - Operational Data at Physicians Mutual is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scripts and jobs for data extraction, transformation, cleaning, and loading into operational data stores. This role also involves mentoring less experienced designers and serving as a project technical lead for mid-sized data projects, ensuring the integrity and performance of data systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scripts and jobs for data extraction, transformation, cleaning, and loading.
• Mentor less experienced designers in data engineering practices.
• Serve as a project technical lead for mid-sized data projects.
• Ensure data integrity and performance in operational data stores.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 6 years of IT experience, including at least 5 years' progressive experience in relational database management systems.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Strong programming skills using Python/PySpark.
• Familiarity with ETL tools such as DataStage or Informatica.
• Strong understanding of data architecture and database/SQL performance tuning.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong SQL programming skills in a DB2 environment.
• Strong SQL programming skills in SQL Server environment.
• Workday programming experience.
• Experience with Docker/Jenkins.
• Experience mentoring junior data engineers.
