About the position

The Publisher Technologies (PubTech) team at Amazon is dedicated to building and operating extensible services that empower first-party (1P) Publishers to enhance the monetization of their customer experiences. The team emphasizes standards-based and flexible designs, enabling Publishers to innovate on top of our solutions and to interoperate effectively with other advertising technology providers, both internal and external. Within this framework, the PubTech Data, Insights, and Analytics team plays a crucial role in facilitating faster data-driven decision-making for Publishers and Monetization teams. We provide near real-time data, data management tools, actionable insights, and a user-friendly reporting experience. Our data products equip Publishers and Monetization teams with the necessary capabilities to better understand the performance of their advertising products while also supporting machine learning at scale. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be tasked with building a reliable and efficient data platform that supports analytics and intuitive data products. This platform will empower stakeholders to leverage data in an efficient and self-service manner. You will engage with cutting-edge data technologies such as Spark, Iceberg, Kafka, and various AWS technologies to construct a scalable and robust data platform that supports analytics and experimentation. Your responsibilities will include creating end-to-end data pipelines that consolidate large datasets from disparate systems into easily consumable formats, driving actionable insights for your customers. The ideal candidate for this role will possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work effectively within a matrix organization, and the capability to synthesize a variety of technologies and capabilities into products that resonate with advertisers. Engaging with customers to understand their current and emerging needs is essential, as is the ability to develop customer insights that lead to innovative solutions. We are looking for a customer-obsessed, technology-savvy individual with a passion for advertising and a well-rounded technical background, including experience in leading complex, ambiguous projects from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the PubTech data platform's processing and analytics needs.
  • Build robust, scalable, fault-tolerant data ingestion, processing, and storage solutions using technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, and AWS.
  • Implement data quality processes, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to understand their data requirements and translate them into efficient and reliable data pipelines.
  • Contribute to the team's efforts in developing best practices, standards, and tools for data engineering.
  • Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
  • Experience mentoring team members on best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering
  • Industry experience in advertising
  • 2+ years of experience building applications using the AWS cloud or similar.
