About the position

The Senior Data Engineer will play a crucial role in our data warehousing team, focusing on transforming transactional data into datasets that can be utilized by various consumers for reporting and analytics purposes. This position requires a flexible and forward-thinking individual who is eager to learn new tools and skills, as well as adapt to new data domains as the data warehouse continues to evolve. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining complex SQL for ETL processes and reporting, ensuring that the data is accurate, accessible, and usable for stakeholders. In this role, you will also be expected to perform database administration tasks, which include managing scheduled jobs and cluster configurations, as well as software administration tasks such as deploying applications and managing scheduled tasks. The ability to quickly learn new tools and provide innovative solutions to problems is essential. You will collaborate with other program staff and customers to make design decisions within given constraints, requiring excellent communication and diplomacy skills to effectively interact with both clients and technical teams. Candidates must be local to the Ashburn, VA office and able to work onsite occasionally. This position requires US citizenship and an active Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Public Trust clearance or similar clearance that will gain reciprocity. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of experience in a data engineering role, with a strong background in ETL development, database development, data integration, data mining, and big data.

Responsibilities

  • Transform transactional data into consumable datasets for reporting and analytics.
  • Develop and maintain complex SQL for ETL and reporting.
  • Perform database administration tasks, including managing scheduled jobs and cluster configurations.
  • Execute software administration tasks such as deploying applications and managing scheduled tasks.
  • Collaborate with program staff and customers to reach design decisions within constraints.
  • Learn new tools quickly to provide innovative solutions to problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a data engineering role.
  • Strong experience in ETL development, database development, data integration, data mining, and big data.
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining complex SQL for ETL and reporting.
  • Experience with large complex data systems.
  • Ability to perform database administration tasks.
  • Experience in software administration tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in Python and Scala.
  • Experience using Spark and Hive.
  • Familiarity with Qlik or other data visualization tools.
  • Experience with Databricks development and administration.
  • Familiarity with DB2, Oracle, SAP, Postgres, Elastic Search, Glacier, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Hadoop, Splunk, SAP HANA.
