The Senior Data Engineer position is a mid-career role that emphasizes independence and ownership in the development and maintenance of data infrastructures. This role involves defining the scope and tasks for oneself or collaborating with one or more engineers. The Senior Data Engineer will work with large datasets to support our Systems Integration team, which monitors the performance of our deployed IoT products. Our team utilizes data collected through various communication technologies, including cellular, fixed network, and mobile, to evaluate the performance of individual meters, sensors, endpoints, and other devices. By employing statistics and machine learning, we generate reports and solutions that communicate system and hardware performance to cross-functional teams within our organization and support our external customers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development and data management, with expertise in AWS cloud services, and will be looking for a position that offers growth opportunities toward supervisory or management roles.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain datasets, data pipelines, and frameworks
  • Develop, implement, deploy, and support data solutions, transform data, correct problems, and recommend solutions for data cleaning
  • Develop, implement, and support cloud strategies, best practices, and standards to ensure effective use and management of our data
  • Ensure all procedures, approvals, documentation, and other data governance best practices are followed
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from throughout the business
  • Independently solve problems and develop solutions
  • Mentor other data engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, applied math, engineering, or related subjects AND 7 or more years of related experience
  • Significant experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Significant experience with programming/scripting languages Python, C#, and Java
  • Significant experience with AWS cloud services S3, DynamoDB, EC2, EMR, Glue, SageMaker
  • Experience with RESTful API
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to develop business relationships, and describe concepts to senior and executive management in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong product knowledge preferred

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence use cases
  • Experience in real-time ingress solutions
  • Experience with migration of data from legacy sources to cloud platforms
  • Experience with IoT deployed device monitoring
  • Experience with utility data management for the water utility industry
