About the position

The Sr. Data Engineer will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines that process and analyze large volumes of instrument data, clinical biomarker inputs, and patient information. This role is crucial for the development and deployment of innovative diagnostic tools, requiring a strong technical foundation and experience in startup environments, particularly in regulated industries like those overseen by the FDA.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Extract-Transform Load (ETL) processes to manage data from various sources.
• Create and maintain scalable data infrastructure, ensuring data is clean and accessible for analysis.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including FDA guidelines, maintaining data integrity and security.
• Document data processes, pipelines, and infrastructure, communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to understand data requirements and ensure pipelines meet user needs.
• Identify opportunities to enhance data systems, improve performance, and reduce costs, implementing best practices in data engineering.
• Work independently while contributing to team objectives and influencing project goals.
• Provide project work guidance or technical feedback to other engineers, acting as a technical resource within the department.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in a startup biotechnology company; 6+ years for advanced degrees.
• Advanced expertise in SQL, Python, and ETL tools; experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and data warehousing solutions is highly desired.
• Strong understanding of data requirements in regulated environments, including familiarity with FDA regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to build data solutions from scratch, including designing scalable pipelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
