As part of the Product & Data Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in the end-to-end development of Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including popular streaming platforms like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Our team is at the forefront of innovation, driving the development of groundbreaking products and techniques that enhance how audiences experience sports, entertainment, and news. We are responsible for powering core experiences such as personalization, search, messaging, and data across various platforms, including Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web. In your role as a Senior Data Engineer on the Data Measurement team, you will leverage your technical and business acumen to ensure that Disney's data is trusted and reliable. You will help define, measure, support, and certify the data pipelines and systems that serve our business and millions of users. Your contributions will be vital in building and maintaining the thousands of signals required to ensure data quality, which in turn drives critical insights and supports our machine learning models. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that shape the future of Disney's media landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage skills in SQL, Scala, and Python to build models that measure and evaluate the quality, consistency, resilience, accuracy, and availability of data.
  • Collaborate with engineering, management, product, and business teams to improve data reliability across products and projects.
  • Review code for design, testability, and clear usability.
  • Provide intuitive metrics that show stakeholders the state of their data in actionable form.
  • Build and automate data rules to verify data meets boundary conditions and alert data owners/consumers when conditions are met.
  • Automate processes, procedures, and workflows to ease the data certification process.
  • Solve complex problems and bring a new perspective on existing solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in designing and executing queries to assess the veracity of datasets.
  • Ability to read/write complex SQL queries to analyze data and investigate systemic defects.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods for assessing and evaluating data.
  • 3+ years experience working with at least one or more industry-standard database technologies (mySQL, Snowflake, Hive).
  • 3+ years of experience in programming languages like Python or Scala/Java.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills that translate across technical and business domains.
  • Team-oriented and independently motivated to deliver results.
  • Patience and resilience in working with sometimes ambiguous requirements that characterize innovation projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in using reporting tools like Tableau or Looker.
  • Proficiency in git or similar version control tools.
  • Proficiency in machine learning model development.
  • Experience working in big data environments (Hadoop, S3, HBase).
  • Master's Degree a plus.
