About the position

CGI is seeking a Senior Data Engineer or Analyst to join our Data Platform and Analytics Engineering (DPaAS) team within the Finance Technology group. This role is pivotal in providing functional expertise and guidance for key data projects within DPaAS. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in data analysis, design, and architecture, particularly in supporting data engineering functions. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for defining better development practices and methodologies, ensuring that the team adheres to industry standards. In this position, you will be tasked with gathering functional requirements for new feature development aimed at building out new or enhancing existing data platform services in AWS Redshift and Oracle cloud environments. Your expertise in SQL, data integration, and extensive data warehousing experience will be crucial. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to articulate and influence the technical direction of projects, leveraging your combination of systems and technology experience to make informed functional design decisions that support major initiatives across the domain. Your future duties will include partnering with internal clients and external vendors in functional and technical design, guiding the development of the Data Analytics platform, and translating business requirements into functional design documents. You will create source-to-target data lineage mapping documents, provide direction for data validation, and ensure that functional design documents are comprehensible to both end users and technical teams. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing ad-hoc reports, supporting data reconciliation, and performing extensive data analysis to summarize insights effectively.

Responsibilities

• Partner with internal clients and external vendors in functional and technical design.
• Gather and assess requirements and assist with translation into optimal analytical solutions.
• Facilitate client requirements and conversations through prototyping to gather requirements on KPIs and other reporting needs.
• Translate and convert business requirements into Data Analytics functional design documents.
• Deliver functional design documents that are comprehensible to end users and technical teams.
• Create source-to-target data lineage mapping documents for mapping and validating data elements from multiple source systems to target systems.
• Provide direction and guidance with mapping and validating data elements from multiple source systems to target systems.
• Walkthrough the functional design documents and related deliverables with the technical and business teams to seek sign-off.
• Provide functional guidance to technical resources.
• Review and provide feedback on technical design documents to ensure alignment with functional design and best practices.
• Develop different ad-hoc and user-specific reports and queries to support the business team.
• Provide functional support during the testing phase to ensure defects identified are valid.
• Support data reconciliation to ensure KPIs, balances, and field-level data within dashboards/reports match expected outcomes.
• Perform extensive data analysis and data mining, summarizing results and insights comprehensively.

Requirements

• At least 8+ years of diverse technology experience with a minimum of 6 years in DWBI application design, development, and implementation.
• 5+ years of experience designing dimensional models and knowledge of relational databases and data warehouses (AWS Redshift & Oracle preferred).
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and functional experience in Tableau reports/dashboards.
• Experience with other BI/reporting tools such as ThoughtSpot, OBIEE is a plus.
• Experience in documenting key deliverables such as requirement gathering, FIT/GAP analysis, ETL specs, business model design, and functional design for reports and data mapping.
• Strong experience in customization and implementation of data warehouses using ETL and BI reporting tools.
• Understanding of BI architecture including physical data models, ETL, logical business models, and subject areas.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong experience in performing data analysis.
• Strong data management principles around data architecture, modeling/design, data quality, security, data organization, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
