About the position

As a Senior Data Engineer at General Reinsurance Corporation, you will play a pivotal role in managing the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes that are essential for our pricing data analysis. Your primary responsibility will be to extract, organize, and analyze pricing data, as well as other data that can be utilized for pricing or diagnostics. You will support and potentially rebuild our pricing models for all Commercial Insurance Liability, including some reinsurance business. This involves handling models that are written with Excel front ends and server-level processing, as well as managing parameter and policy-data tables. In addition to model management, you will be tasked with building data processing pipelines that allow for rapid iteration on research ideas, facilitating their transition into production. You will also be responsible for generating reports on our Property and Casualty (P&C) books of business, drawing from a variety of databases, including legacy systems, modern platforms, vendor platforms, and local drives. Your role will require leveraging both internal and external data sources to engineer innovative features that enhance risk segmentation for pricing and data analytics. Furthermore, you will measure and monitor the performance of products, producers, and underwriters, contributing to the evolution of our data analytics capabilities in alignment with our strategic objective of becoming a data-oriented and analytics-driven organization. You will also prepare actuarial pricing studies for all segments, ensuring that our pricing strategies are informed by robust data analysis. This position allows for telecommuting up to three days a week, providing flexibility in your work environment. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, and offers a competitive salary of $183,955.00 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the ETL process for pricing data and other relevant data.
  • Support, revise, optimize, and maintain pricing models for Commercial Insurance Liability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate related work experience, or a Master's Degree in a related field and 3 years of related work experience.
  • 2 years of experience using R or Python for ETL processes on structured and unstructured data.
  • 2 years of experience with SQL, SQL Server, and Database Management.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) for Excel and Access.
  • 2 years of experience applying classical statistics toward data analytics.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing modern approaches toward data analytics, including Boosting in machine learning.
  • 2 years of experience creating reports summarizing financial and activity for management review.
