About the position

As a Senior Data Engineer at Capital One, you will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to building and pioneering innovative technology solutions. In this position, you will collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using full-stack development tools and technologies. You will work alongside a team of experienced developers who specialize in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full-stack systems. Your expertise in programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python, along with your knowledge of Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, will be crucial as you utilize cloud-based data warehousing services like Redshift and Snowflake. Your role will also involve sharing your passion for technology by staying updated on the latest trends, experimenting with new technologies, and mentoring fellow engineers. You will collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that enhance user experiences and empower millions of Americans financially. Additionally, you will perform unit tests and conduct code reviews to ensure that your work is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and optimized for performance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions.
  • Work with a team of developers experienced in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full-stack systems.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, and Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Leverage cloud-based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake.
  • Stay updated on tech trends, experiment with new technologies, and mentor other engineers.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions that enhance user experiences.
  • Perform unit tests and conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 4 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not apply)
  • At least 1 year of experience in big data technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in application development including Python, SQL, or Scala
  • 2+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
  • 3+ years experience with Distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL)
  • 2+ year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications
  • 2+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra)
  • 2+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake)
  • 3+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
  • 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.
