About the position

The Senior Data Engineer position at Emerald Resource Group is a pivotal role focused on enhancing data analytics and reporting capabilities within the organization. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about data and eager to contribute to the company's pursuit of excellence. The Senior Data Engineer will take ownership of creating detailed analytical models and will provide expert opinions on the integration and processing of data that drives value and informs business decisions. In this role, the Senior Data Engineer will lead the technical design and implementation of data solutions, ensuring that they are robust and scalable. The engineer will partner with cross-functional teams to define and complete well-structured user stories, which are essential for the successful delivery of data projects. A key responsibility will be to maintain and evolve a data governance policy that is maturing, ensuring that data integrity and security are upheld. Additionally, the engineer will manage a rapidly growing data model that contains vital customer information, ensuring it remains reliable and effective. The position also involves designing and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions from various data sources, including APIs and both proprietary and NoSQL databases. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for providing best-in-class business analytics through web-based reports and dashboards, defining project timelines, and identifying risks associated with data engineering projects. Furthermore, the engineer will mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design, implementation, and problem resolution.
  • Partner cross-functionally to define and complete well-structured user stories.
  • Maintain, evolve, and adhere to a maturing data governance policy.
  • Maintain and evolve a rapidly growing and robust data model containing vital customer information.
  • Design and implement reliable ETL solutions from a variety of data sources (APIs, Proprietary DB, No-SQL).
  • Provide best-in-class business analytics in the form of web-based reports and dashboards.
  • Define Data Engineering project feature delivery timelines and risks.
  • Provide mitigation options to solve for blockers and technical risks as they arise.
  • Identify technical debt and communicate plans to manage it responsibly.
  • Provide mentoring as needed to team members.

Requirements

  • A strong sense of ownership, pride, and commitment to quality.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Power BI.
  • Mastery of Business Intelligence data visualization tools.
  • Mastery of RDBMS (MSSQL) and/or NoSQL database technologies (MongoDB, Cosmos DB).
  • Experience with cloud-based and/or on-premises data warehousing (Azure preferred).
  • Experience with Power BI Embedded Analytics.
  • Experience with Agile software development principles.
  • A track record of teamwork through high-quality and timely Data Engineering projects.
