About the position

The Senior Data Engineer at MFS will be a vital member of the Investment Technology Team, responsible for designing, developing, and implementing data engineering and analytics solutions for the multi-asset platform. This role emphasizes collaboration and innovation, aiming to unify investment data through the use of cloud platforms and data pipelines, while ensuring high data quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and organize raw data from different sources (vendors, data delivery methods, etc.)
  • Maintain SQL databases.
  • Build data models and pipelines.
  • Automate reports and processes to run with varying frequencies.
  • Monitor and debug processes and report the problem to the corresponding responsible parties.
  • Explore ways to enhance data quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Develop analytical tools and programs.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and architects on several projects.
  • Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to ensure code quality and performance.
  • Work with cross-functional Agile teams and apply DevOps principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-5+ years of related experience in Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and/or Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes.
  • Extensive experience working with database management languages (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP)/Scripting languages such as R or Python.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
  • Strong technical acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work across boundaries, building cross-organizational relationships.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (ERD, Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault) and data APIs (RESTful API).
  • Strong desire to expand skills through self-study, hands-on learning, and formal instruction.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (both written and oral) & analytical skills; must be team-oriented and deadline-driven.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data integration tools such as DBT and Fivetran/HVR.
  • Experience in fixed income or financial services.
