About the position

The Senior Data Engineer at West Bend is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering extensible data solutions within an agile engineering team. This role focuses on leveraging cloud-native data tooling and requires expertise in various programming languages and data storage technologies. The position also involves mentoring junior employees and ensuring the delivery of business value through effective data engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop data solutions as part of an agile engineering team.
• Perform data engineering, data modeling, and code reviews.
• Implement data storage and automation solutions to support business value delivery.
• Mentor and coach junior employees and peers in best practices.
• Facilitate the full delivery of solutions to achieve business value, not just individual code.
• Collaborate with IT peers and leadership to influence and challenge existing processes.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience delivering data solutions in an Agile environment.
• Advanced proficiency with solution design concepts in cloud-native data architectures.
• Advanced proficiency with Python and SQL programming languages.
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data lake, and data mesh concepts.
• Experience with Snowflake, Azure Data Lake Storage, and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory and/or Snowpark.
• Experience with DevOps or DataOps concepts, including building release pipelines using Powershell, Git, Azure CLI, and/or Snowflake CLI.
• Ability to effectively communicate, influence, and challenge IT peers and leadership.

• Experience with Property & Casualty Insurance data.
• Experience with Insurance Financial data.
