About the position

At ABSG Consulting, we are at the forefront of risk analysis, providing essential services to federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Coast Guard. We are currently seeking a Senior Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Global Government division, headquartered in Washington, DC. This role is pivotal in supporting our government clients' data governance programs by offering expertise in data governance, management, quality, and stewardship. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to execute data-driven strategies that identify risks and propose effective mitigation approaches. In this position, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice and technical guidance to client program and project staff. This includes developing detailed plans, conducting analyses, and making recommendations for improvements and optimizations related to mission-critical data challenges. You will also assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies, standards, and procedures to enhance data management and ensure compliance with government regulations. Your role will involve evaluating existing data models and structures to identify areas for improvement, designing and maintaining data quality improvement processes, and creating a data taxonomy to facilitate data classification. Additionally, you will work closely with stakeholders to establish a network of data stewards and provide training on data governance practices. This position requires a deep understanding of both the technical and organizational change activities necessary for maturing data management and governance across complex enterprises.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to client program and project staff.
  • Develop detailed plans, conduct analyses, and make recommendations for improvements and optimizations related to data challenges.
  • Assist in developing and implementing data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Design and maintain data quality improvement and monitoring processes.
  • Evaluate existing data models, structures, and data flow to identify areas for improvement.
  • Design and maintain a data taxonomy for data classification and organization.
  • Design metadata management strategies and implement tools for data documentation.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop a network of data stewards and execute data governance training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in data governance and data management.
  • Experience providing expertise in data governance, management, quality, and stewardship for government agencies.
  • Background in facilitating change and customer engagement in data management and governance.
  • Demonstrated experience with data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Atacamma, OvalEdge.
