The Senior Data Governance Specialist at Bayer is a pivotal role focused on the formal management of data within the organization. This position is responsible for deploying and enforcing policies and procedures that ensure the proper use and management of Bayer Crop Science data. The role emphasizes the importance of data governance practices, which are essential for improving data quality, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making while minimizing risks. The specialist will evangelize the Divisional Data Governance framework to functional leads and participants, driving efficient and accurate records management throughout the organization. In this role, the Senior Data Governance Specialist will lead cross-functional and technical teams on complex data projects, supporting the implementation and oversight of enterprise data engagement and governance goals, standards, practices, processes, and change management. The specialist will conduct data governance audits and assessments to ensure compliance with data governance policies, including access reviews and control testing. Additionally, the role involves designing and implementing industry best practices around data classification, access frameworks, data quality, and metadata management. The specialist will evaluate concerns in governing data, providing problem definitions, opportunity recommendations, and root cause analysis. Establishing confidence in the quality of Crop Science data is crucial, as is identifying opportunities to minimize data compliance risks. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders to establish data sharing structures and protocols, facilitating smooth change management for improved data sharing and adoption. The Senior Data Governance Specialist will also work closely with business data stewards to optimize the adoption of enterprise data governance through the execution of use cases and iterative adoption strategies. Furthermore, the specialist will institute and facilitate governance of business and technical metadata, develop high-quality processes focused on data governance excellence, and represent the data governance strategy across Crop Science teams. Ensuring compliance with data protection laws and providing training on data governance to employees are also key responsibilities of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics or related field.
  • Expert level expertise in querying SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Expert level experience developing functional/technical/data workflows.
  • Strong experience identifying and implementing data governance best practices.
  • Proven implementation experience across product supply/commercial/R&D domains.
  • Experience in operationalizing data compliance practices including security and privacy regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively challenge all levels of the organization and offer value-add solutions.
  • Strong experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Collaborative team player who is detail-oriented and focused on solution quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data process, internal applications, and scripting tools.
