About the position

The Senior Data Modeling Engineer position is a critical role within Oracle Analytics, specifically focusing on the Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI) platform. This platform is designed to enhance the capabilities of Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications by integrating business data with advanced analytics and machine learning models. The role is primarily onsite/hybrid at the Pleasanton, CA office, with no remote options available. As a member of the FDI Pipeline team, you will engage with Product Managers and Subject Matter Experts to gather business and functional requirements, ensuring that the data models and pipelines you design are robust and effective for reporting, analytics, and machine learning applications. In this position, you will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of data modeling, from understanding data sufficiency to implementing data models that are easy to explain and understand. You will take ownership of the quality of your deliverables, which includes designing and developing unit and integration tests, as well as collaborating closely with QA teams to ensure the integrity of the data. Debugging and analyzing data issues will be a significant part of your role, requiring you to consider data debugging as part of your design process. You will also monitor deployment statistics and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement, and you will have the opportunity to influence the features of the underlying platform based on your findings. Additionally, you will create supporting documentation, including metadata and diagrams that illustrate entity relationships, business processes, and process flows. This role requires a strong foundation in data architecture and engineering, with a focus on best practices in big data environments. You will be expected to leverage your analytical skills and programming expertise to contribute to the success of the FDI platform and its users.

Responsibilities

  • Learn business and functional requirements from Product Managers and Subject Matter Experts and analyze data sufficiency.
  • Design and implement data models and pipelines to power reporting, analytics, and machine learning models.
  • Own the quality of deliverables, design and develop unit and integration tests, and collaborate with QA counterparts.
  • Debug and analyze data issues, considering data debugging as part of the design process.

Requirements

  • BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent with around 6 years of applied experience and around 5+ years of proven experience working in data architecture, engineering, or modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of Kimball and data model best practices in big data environments.
  • Experience with analytical relational databases, including understanding of execution plans and partitions.
  • Experience with big data systems such as Spark, including understanding of drivers, executors, and partitions.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modeling tools, and ETL processes, patterns, and best practices.
  • Experience with data analysis, basic statistics, and visualization.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with an eye for detail.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, or Java.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in Data Science concepts, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence is a plus.
  • Experience in software engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in developing or supporting data products or solutions over multiple releases is a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud and Oracle Analytics is a plus.
