About the position

The Senior Data Platform Engineer at Aclima will play a crucial role in architecting and developing robust data processing systems that support the company's mission to monitor and respond to air pollution. This position requires a blend of technical leadership and hands-on implementation skills to manage large-scale data from mobile air pollution sensors, ensuring data integrity and reliability while fostering a culture of innovation within the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of scalable backend systems for processing air pollution data.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance system capabilities.
  • Deploy and maintain database tools and infrastructure for structured and unstructured data.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers, data scientists, and product teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Implement and optimize distributed data processing systems for large volumes of sensor data.
  • Ensure data integrity, reliability, and security across all systems and processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and engage in peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
  • Lead technical discussions and contribute to the company's strategic vision.
  • Establish best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and advocate for technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data or software engineering with a focus on scalable data processing systems.
  • Expertise in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks (Beam, Spark, Flink) and database systems (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud preferred, AWS is a plus) and data processing services (DataFlow, BigQuery, DataProc).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and commitment to Aclima's mission.
