About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be a Sr Product Technical Manager within the Global Data & Analytics team at McDonald's. This role is pivotal as it involves leading and owning multiple products from an engineering standpoint. The Product Technical Manager will be responsible for prioritizing multiple technical product backlogs, balancing new features, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, and requests across teams. This includes coordinating deployments with other Product Owners in the Data & Analytics team. The ideal candidate will have a proven aptitude to develop detailed domain knowledge of multiple products and oversee what work goes to development squads as the lead technology business representative and decision-maker, working closely with the product team. In this role, you will own the responsibility for delivering data initiatives across our data product landscape, aiming to globally improve and progress McDonald's to a world-class data product organization. You will partner with business customers and stakeholders to define and deliver the associated technical data product solutions using a mix of internal and external resources, ensuring successful integration with existing McDonald's systems. The position requires mastery of your product, including understanding data ingestion, transformation, loading, and table structures, as well as the technical components of your products. You will also need to recognize product performance from an end-user standpoint, including data quality, responsiveness, and reliability. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing the data product's target technical roadmap and making key technology decisions to deliver on that roadmap. You will engage in discussions regarding the appropriateness of solutions used in your product and continuously look for ways to evolve and improve. Collaborating with Data & Solution Architects, you will launch scalable and reliable data solutions, support system integration efforts, and create operational efficiencies through automation and process improvements. You will also manage technical interdependencies and interfaces of your product with other systems and products, establish best practices for identifying and managing technical risks, and provide leadership for data engineers and other resources allocated to the product.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own multiple products within the Global Data & Analytics team from an engineering standpoint.
  • Prioritize multiple technical product backlogs, balancing new features, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements.
  • Coordinate deployments with other Product Owners in the Data & Analytics team.
  • Develop detailed domain knowledge of multiple products and oversee work going to development squads.
  • Deliver data initiatives across the data product landscape to improve McDonald's data product organization.
  • Partner with business customers and stakeholders to define and deliver technical data product solutions.
  • Master the technical and business understanding of your products, including data ingest, transform, load, and table structures.
  • Engage in discussions regarding the appropriateness of solutions used in your product and continuously evolve and improve.
  • Collaborate with Data & Solution Architects to launch scalable and reliable data solutions.
  • Manage technical interdependencies and interfaces of your product with other systems and products.
  • Establish best practices for identifying, analyzing, and managing technical risks.
  • Provide people leadership for data engineers and other resources allocated to the product.
  • Define critical non-functional requirements that sustain throughout the data product lifecycle.
  • Participate in release preparation and planning, managing temporary solutions and technical debt at the squad level.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or related field is required.
  • 8+ years of technically focused experience in related technologies and languages (Web Services, Java, XML, S3, NoSQL, Kafka, Spark, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Event, Workflow, and Application driven Data Architecture.
  • Experience with API and Microservices management.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based data systems, including AWS and GCP.
  • Seasoned technical leader with hands-on development and deployment experience.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders across a complex, global matrix organization.
  • Experience with DevOps and data reliability engineering.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional teams to align and deliver projects.
  • A passion for innovation and superior problem-solving skills.
  • Deep understanding of business, information, and technical architecture.
  • Experience with creating and executing testing strategies for functional, integration, and performance testing.
  • Experience developing solutions that provide high levels of resilience and scale.
  • Experience in Agile product development.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts.
