About the position

The Sr. Data Quality Assurance Engineer at Southern New Hampshire University is a key member of the Data Services team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and quality of business-applicable data. This role involves thorough testing of data transformations, ETL processes, and data services to support data-driven decisions and strategic programs. The position allows for 100% remote work within approved states and requires collaboration with various stakeholders to maintain high data quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Test data transformations, ETL processes, and data services for accuracy, completeness, and performance.
  • Collaborate with database administrators, data engineers, and other partners to understand data requirements and system architecture.
  • Participate in testing and validating emergency production bug fixes.
  • Assume a leadership role in special testing projects and tasks.
  • Ensure documentation is up to date and follows set standards.
  • Ensure deliverables meet functional and design specifications and requirements.
  • Follow data quality assurance standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Develop and automate test suites for data quality, metadata, regression, smoke, functionality, and performance.
  • Analyze changes and update test cases accordingly.
  • Log defects in a detailed and reproducible manner and track them through closure with the Development team.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for data quality improvements and data governance programs.
  • Communicate testing status effectively to the team.
  • Mentor user acceptance testers and fellow QA engineers, and assist in onboarding new team members.

Requirements

  • 7 years of database development or data Quality Assurance experience in a quantitative, data-driven business environment.
  • 2 years' experience in data Quality Assurance testing.
  • Knowledge of data quality assurance best practices in a data services environment.
  • High-level understanding of relational database architecture and data warehousing.
  • High proficiency in SQL programming for SQL Server, including complex queries and scripts for data validation.
  • Experience with Visual Studio using C# unit testing.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices, including Kanban and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, including developing and monitoring pipelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, including Boards and Git source code control.
  • Knowledge of data quality management principles.
  • Experience in defect tracking and release management.
  • Lead experience in manual and automated testing tasks.
