About the position

The Forecasting Team at Gap Inc. is focused on applying data analysis and machine learning techniques to enhance inventory management strategies across the company's brands. The successful candidate will lead the development of advanced forecasting models, utilizing expertise in forecasting, predictive modeling, and supply chain analytics to drive business benefits. This role involves collaboration with various business functions and partners to build and deploy data and predictive analytics capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build, validate, and maintain AI (Machine Learning/Deep Learning) models, optimizing performance and developing statistical models for business analysis.
  • Develop software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Manipulate large amounts of data across diverse subject areas, collaborating with data scientists and engineers to prepare data pipelines for modeling.
  • Deliver data-backed recommendations tied to business results and industry insights.
  • Communicate compelling, data-driven recommendations to influence leaders' and stakeholders' decisions.
  • Build networks across the organization to anticipate leader requests and influence data-driven decision making.
  • Guide discussions and empower junior team members to identify best solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing advanced algorithms using machine learning, statistical, and optimization methods in the retail sector.
  • Hands-on experience with forecasting models, running simulations, and prescriptive analytics.
  • Experience with time series analysis, predictive modeling, hierarchical Bayesian, causal ML, and transformer-based algorithms.
  • Experience creating business impact in supply chain, merchandise, inventory planning, or vendor management using advanced forecasting techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in analytics tools and languages such as Python, R, Spark, SQL.
  • Ability to work at a detailed level and summarize findings for strong recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence product and analytics roadmap.
  • Mid-level career experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent quantitative field.
