About the position

The Senior Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of predictive modeling algorithms and techniques aimed at solving complex business problems within the healthcare industry. This position is designed for a highly skilled individual who can leverage their expertise to optimize member experiences through data-driven insights. The role requires a deep understanding of statistical methods, machine learning, and data processing techniques, as well as the ability to communicate findings effectively to business partners. In this position, the Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for designing and leading predictive modeling projects that address intricate business challenges identified through consultations with various stakeholders. The candidate will work with massive data streams in distributed computing environments, such as Hadoop, to facilitate comprehensive analysis. They will recommend appropriate batch and real-time model scoring methods to drive actionable insights and decisions. The Senior Data Scientist will also oversee the development of proprietary algorithms that create customized solutions, pushing beyond standard industry tools to deliver innovative results. Advanced visualization techniques will be employed to present analysis outputs to business users, ensuring that results are not only published but also discussed in terms of constraints and limitations. The role involves providing actionable insights to ensure that established targets are met and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for current predictive modeling algorithms. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Senior Data Scientist will proactively engage with business partners to identify population segments and develop actionable plans that highlight patterns related to quality, usage, cost, and other critical variables. Additionally, the candidate will lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists, fostering a culture of learning and innovation within the team.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead predictive modeling projects to address complex business problems determined by consultation with business partners.
• Pipe and process massive data-streams in distributed computing environments (e.g., Hadoop) to facilitate analysis.
• Recommend appropriate batch and real-time model scoring to drive actions.
• Provide oversight in the development of proprietary algorithms to build customized solutions that go beyond standard industry tools.
• Develop advanced visualizations of analysis output for business users.
• Publish results and address constraints/limitations with business partners.
• Provide actionable insights to ensure established targets are met.
• Determine continuous improvement opportunities of current predictive modeling algorithms.
• Proactively collaborate with business partners to identify population segments and develop actionable plans related to quality, use, cost, and other variables.
• Lead and mentor Data Scientists.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Econometrics, Physics, Biostatistics, or related quantitative disciplines and 5+ years of experience in predictive analytics or equivalent field.
• Master's degree in a related field and 3+ years of experience in predictive analytics or equivalent field.
• Advanced expertise with software such as Python, R, SAS, SAS Enterprise Miner (or equivalent).
• Excellent coding skills in Python, SQL, and Big Data technologies.
• Experience leading end-to-end data science project implementation.
• Experience managing a small team either through formal or informal reporting relationships.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with developing recommendation engines is preferred.
• Experience working in a healthcare organization or with healthcare data is preferred.
