About the position

The Senior Data Scientist at American National will focus on leveraging advanced data analytics to produce innovative solutions from complex datasets. This role involves collaborating with business partners to identify needs, applying statistical and machine learning techniques, and translating technical findings into actionable insights for various business challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Create innovative vision and strategy for new datasets and lead the discovery of insights from large/complex datasets.
  • Combine insurance knowledge with data science to develop applications across various insurance-related areas.
  • Work closely with business partners to identify critical questions and build hypotheses, developing problem definitions and analytical approaches.
  • Translate technical analyses and results into simple visuals and actionable items for business partners.
  • Participate in the selection of research tools and technologies and design a common research process.
  • Research and maintain awareness of industry best practices and business strategies.
  • Monitor industry and competitor trends to assess potential impacts on predictive models.
  • Identify and leverage emerging technologies and open-source tools, applying new techniques such as GMB, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and NLP.
  • Lead complex research or analytics projects related to large business initiatives, applying expert knowledge of trends and practices.
  • Mentor less experienced data science professionals.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in mathematics, data science, or a related field; a Master's degree may substitute for 1-2 years of experience.
  • Four to six years of experience in data science or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mastery of programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, and R, with strong coding practices.
  • Experience with large, complex datasets and big data technologies.
  • Ability to formulate and solve complex analytical problems using a quantitative approach.
  • Extensive knowledge of data management and analysis tools.
  • Experience in developing and managing complex projects and leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings clearly to management.
