About the position

The Senior Data Warehouse SQL Developer/Supervisor at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the Agency's enterprise DataMart data warehouse. This role involves integrating data from various sources, ensuring the smooth operation of database management systems, and overseeing the DataMart team. The position emphasizes modernizing the data warehouse infrastructure and promoting compliance with IT best practices across the Agency.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, support, enhance, and maintain the Agency enterprise DataMart data warehouse/database and its related automated Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) processes.
  • Integrate data from multiple source systems and databases to create an analytical data warehouse (in Oracle) serving users across the Agency.
  • Support the Agency's MS SQL Server database management systems to ensure smooth operation, security, and performance.
  • Head the development and maintenance of data warehouse standards, processes, and policies, ensuring alignment with IT best practices and OCIO policies.
  • Promote DNR-wide compliance among other IT professionals across the Agency.
  • Modernize and enhance the existing data warehouse (enterprise DataMart) and its infrastructure, incorporating the latest data warehouse/analytics platforms and technologies.
  • Oversee activities and direct employees of the DataMart team, including assigning tasks, providing feedback, and completing annual performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in computer science, information systems, or related field AND seven years of experience in Oracle database and/or MS SQL Server database.
  • SQL (PL/SQL or T-SQL) programming experience.
  • Troubleshooting all types of technical issues and providing support on data warehouse.
  • Scripting/coding experience (e.g. Python, C#).
  • Experience with enterprise batch scheduling software (e.g. Application Manager).
  • Knowledge and experience in all systems development life cycle (SDLC) stages.
  • Experience with data warehousing best practices and methodologies.
  • Experience with data modeling and database design principles.
  • Experience with ETL (Extract Transform Load) tools, such as Automic Applications Manager, Informatica, SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), or similar software products.
