About the position

This position is based out of Dallas, TX with work performed onsite at our client location in Dallas. However, a hybrid working model is accepted. CGI is looking for a senior Database Administrator (DBA) with hands-on experience in MySQL and Oracle, specifically in administering and operating production databases at an enterprise scale. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in large banks and financial institutions, which is crucial for understanding the complexities and requirements of database management in such environments. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting database health checks and creating new databases to ensure optimal performance and reliability. You will engage in database performance tuning and operations, which involves monitoring and adjusting database parameters to enhance efficiency. Your duties will also include the installation, configuration, maintenance, administration, and monitoring of databases, ensuring they are secure and functioning correctly. Additionally, you will be involved in database design and modeling, which requires a strong understanding of data structures and relationships. Diagnosis and troubleshooting will be a significant part of your responsibilities, as you will need to identify and resolve issues that may arise within the database systems. You will also be tasked with query fine-tuning and performing code reviews to ensure that database queries are optimized for performance and resource usage.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct database health checks and create new databases.
  • Engage in database performance tuning and operations.
  • Install, configure, maintain, administer, and monitor databases.
  • Design and model databases according to requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database issues.
  • Fine-tune queries and perform code reviews.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in the Information Technology sector.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a DBA with strong expertise in both MySQL and Oracle environments.
  • Possess a broad range of technical knowledge including applications, enterprise technology, infrastructure, and telecommunications.
  • Experience with SDLC and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge in ETL tools and reporting tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in banking applications is a big plus.
