About the position

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) at AgFirst Farm Credit Bank plays a crucial role in managing, securing, and handling the data, databases, and pipelines essential for the organization. This position is part of the Database Development Services team, which is responsible for the operations of both on-premises and cloud databases. The Senior DBA is expected to provide consulting and mentoring to less experienced staff members on various database-related topics, ensuring that the team maintains high standards of database management and performance. In this role, the Senior DBA will support AgFirst's live operational databases across all environments, including both production and non-production settings. They will be tasked with identifying and acting on opportunities to improve database performance, automate processes, and add value to databases and data pipelines. A strong understanding of data and information in all its forms is essential, as is a working knowledge of data pipeline development to build and maintain optimal data architectures. The Senior DBA will also be responsible for understanding conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and ensuring that time reporting and monthly status reports are submitted on time. The position requires a proactive approach to database management, with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency. The Senior DBA will be expected to leverage their expertise in database management system software and tools, particularly for Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Azure, to enhance the overall performance and reliability of the organization's data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support AgFirst live operational databases across all environments (Production/Non-Production).
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve performance, automate processes, and add value to databases and data pipelines.
  • Use database management system software and tools for Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Azure.
  • Understand data and information in all its forms.
  • Develop and maintain optimal data architectures through data pipeline development.
  • Understand conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Ensure timely submission of time reporting and monthly status reports.

Requirements

  • B.S. in computer science, engineering, or a technical field, or extensive work experience as a DBA.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience as a DBA.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server or Oracle installation and configuration.
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database logical concepts and physical implementation concepts.
  • Excellent grasp of programming and software development concepts.
  • Competency in some scripting language, preferably Python.
  • Excellent skills in presenting and writing on technical topics.
