About the position

The Senior Database Administrator will play a crucial role in supporting Rockwell Automation's growth by managing and optimizing MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. This position is part of the Plex Cloud Operations department, which emphasizes continuous improvement and operational excellence. The administrator will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of database applications while minimizing customer impact during issue resolution. The role involves collaboration with a global team and participation in various projects related to data services.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain database server KPI monitoring/alerting
  • Chart database utilization over time to identify optimal scaling opportunities
  • Identify database bottlenecks and take corrective action
  • Suggest modifications/optimizations for tuning SQL statements and stored procedures
  • Provide in-depth query execution plan expertise
  • Lead regular discussions regarding MySQL and PostgreSQL instances with the data services team
  • Perform post-incident customer impact analysis and monthly application availability metrics
  • Install and configure MySQL 5.7 and PostgreSQL 12.0 to current versions
  • Implement database maintenance routines
  • Participate in on-call rotations
  • Troubleshoot a variety of database issues
  • Manage access and maintain backups and integrity checks
  • Participate in off-hours maintenance windows
  • Engage in multiple projects involving data services
  • Work independently or within a global team environment as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years' experience managing a highly available and reliable production system, preferably 24/7
  • Experience managing MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server in private datacenters and in AWS and/or Azure
  • Proven history of building automated solutions for application resiliency and self-healing
  • Operational experience with data technologies and managing large volumes of data
  • Experience troubleshooting performance and tuning queries and stored procedures
  • Strong SQL skills for writing and reviewing scripts
  • Experience setting up backup schedules and securing data
  • Experience building automation scripts for database server builds using Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization environments
  • Familiarity with MongoDB, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, and open-source technologies
  • Experience with cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP), Kubernetes, Docker, Chef, Puppet, SQL monitoring tools, and external monitoring services
