About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator specializing in Oracle, you will be responsible for designing complex logical and physical databases that require specialized technical knowledge. This role involves coordinating database development and ensuring the integrity and performance of database applications across various environments. You will resolve complex database issues, analyze and implement database applications, and administer, support, and optimize complicated database systems. Your expertise will be crucial in planning, installing, and maintaining database management systems (DBMS), including applying patches and bug fixes, as well as implementing standard configurations for backup operations and file system management. In addition to these responsibilities, you will support high availability database infrastructure, particularly utilizing Oracle RAC and Data Guard technology. Your role will also include performing database backup and recovery to ensure business continuity, managing database performance and capacity, and coordinating with users to determine their requirements. You will design and enforce best practices and database standards in line with industry standards, investigate and resolve advanced database application problems, and contribute to project specifications by determining the scope and limitations of various projects. Furthermore, you will maintain database schemas and documentation, participate in an on-call rotation, and provide first-line support after hours as needed. This position may also involve coaching and mentoring less-experienced analysts and acting as a team leader on systems projects, making it essential for you to possess strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex or ambiguous database issues.
  • Analyze, design, create, and implement complex database applications in all environments.
  • Administer, support, maintain, optimize, and monitor complicated database applications in all environments.
  • Plan, install, and maintain complex DBMS binaries, patches, and bug fixes.
  • Design, test, and implement specific database structural changes.
  • Implement standard configurations and tools for backup operations, analyzing objects, and cleaning file systems and logs.
  • Support high availability database infrastructure including Oracle RAC and Data Guard technology.
  • Perform database Backup and Recovery in support of business continuity.
  • Manage database performance and capacity, providing plans for increases and/or decreases, ensuring improvements are successfully implemented and making tuning adjustments as necessary.
  • Coordinate with users to determine requirements.
  • Design and enforce Best Practices and DB Standards as per industry standards.
  • Investigate and resolve difficult and advanced database application problems.
  • Contribute to specification meetings with project teams to determine scope and limitations of projects.
  • Maintain database schemas and data documentation.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide first line after hours support as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or similar area of study (or equivalent experience).
  • Five (5) years of previous experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Advanced knowledge in shell scripting for process automation.
  • Strong understanding and experience with Unix environments.
  • Experience in Oracle PL/SQL coding.
  • Experience in Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Experience in managing Oracle RAC and Data Guard technology.
  • Knowledge of database analysis, design, and maintenance.
  • Backup and recovery experience.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five (5) years of experience as Oracle RAC DBA.
  • Five (5) years of experience on Oracle Dataguard / Standby Database and DR process.
  • Five (5) years of experience on shell scripting.
  • AWS cloud database administration experience.
  • Oracle Certified Professional or PeopleSoft Certified Professional.
