About the position

The Senior Database Administrator, SQL (Sr. DBA, SQL) will play a crucial role in the Database Services team within Platform Services at UCSF. This position focuses on planning and managing databases, ensuring data accuracy, and developing operational guidelines. The Sr. DBA will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance customer experience and support UCSF's academic mission through effective IT infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage databases including schema definition and structure.
  • Develop documentation, data security measures, and operational guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of data in master files and support tools.
  • Establish database management systems, standards, and quality assurance methods.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to provide best-in-class database services.
  • Support the operational efficiency of UCSF's IT infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in information technology, database architecture, or software development.
  • Microsoft SQL Certification.
  • Proven experience with MySQL, SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar databases.
  • Advanced skills in data modeling and SQL optimization.
  • Extensive experience with Linux/Unix and Windows System Administration.
  • Ability to execute PowerShell and Unix shell scripting.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively.
  • Experience in project management practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Microsoft SQL Certification (preferred).
