About the position

The Senior Database Administrator at MAXIMUS is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing database systems to support government health and human services programs. This role requires a strong understanding of various Database Management Systems (DBMS), including SQL and NoSQL databases, and involves ensuring data availability and integrity through effective backup and recovery strategies. The position also demands active participation in a rotational on-call schedule to support systems that require continuous uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure databases are properly managed, maintained, and optimized to meet business needs.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database structures such as tables, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
  • Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and integrity.
  • Optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexing, and managing database configurations.
  • Administer and maintain multiple server database environments, including installation, configuration, and patch management.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in database administration or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL-based systems and NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of database architecture, schemas, and normalization.
  • Familiarity with PL/SQL for Oracle and T-SQL for SQL Server.
  • Certified in Microsoft MTA, MCSA, or MCSE or equivalent.
  • Certifications in Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database, or MongoDB Certified DBA Associate.
  • Experience working within agile or DevOps environments.
