About the position

The Senior Database Administrator at Texas A&M University plays a crucial role in supporting the student information systems that utilize Oracle databases and Unix platforms. This position involves collaboration with various business units, developers, and IT professionals to install, enhance, monitor, and resolve technical issues, ultimately facilitating student applications, class registrations, and financial assistance processes.

Responsibilities

• Install and configure Oracle databases and related software.
• Monitor database performance and implement improvements.
• Provide technical support and solutions for database-related issues.
• Collaborate with developers and IT staff to enhance database systems.
• Support integration and maintenance of third-party applications with Oracle databases.
• Develop and maintain shell scripts for Unix systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of related experience in database architecture and administration.
• Six years of Oracle administration experience, preferably at the enterprise level.
• Experience with application server support and Unix systems, including shell scripts.
• Development experience in SQL and PL/SQL, groovy, and/or Java is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience supporting integration and maintenance of third-party applications with Oracle databases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Banner applications.
• Familiarity with database security practices.
• Knowledge of data backup and recovery procedures.
