About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator at Uline, you will play a pivotal role in supporting database solutions for North America's leading distributor of shipping, industrial, and packaging materials. This position is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Pleasant Prairie, WI, or Waukegan, IL, depending on operational needs. You will be responsible for optimizing database performance through various techniques, including indexing, query optimization, and database design. Your expertise will ensure that our database systems are efficient and reliable, contributing to the overall success of our applications and services. In this role, you will work closely with application development project teams to ensure optimal application performance. You will also participate in high availability and disaster recovery tests of critical systems, ensuring that our databases and database objects are properly backed up. It is essential that recovery procedures are tested and documented to maintain the integrity and availability of our data. Additionally, you will support databases and database applications, as well as manage upgrades and patches for database management systems. Your leadership skills will be crucial as you guide and develop the database administration team, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

  • Optimize database performance through techniques including indexing, query optimization, and database design.
  • Work closely with application development project teams to ensure optimal application performance.
  • Participate in high availability/disaster recovery tests of critical systems.
  • Ensure databases and database objects are properly backed up, and recovery procedures are tested and documented.
  • Support databases/database applications and manage upgrades and patches for database management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the DB2-LUW Management System.
  • Proficient in replication technologies (e.g., CDC, Attunity) with a basic understanding of data modeling.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments and lead by example to guide and develop the database administration team.
