About the position

SAVA Workforce Solutions, an Akima Company, is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our team at the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) located in Aberdeen, MD. This position is critical in delivering enterprise IT and mission support solutions to the federal government, particularly in the defense and intelligence sectors. The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for building, administering, managing, upgrading, and migrating database environments primarily using Oracle and MS SQL technologies. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service, a deep understanding of database management, and a dedication to supporting the mission of the Army Test Center (ATC). In this role, the Senior Database Administrator will perform enterprise database administration and system administration across various designated systems, including MS-SQL, My-SQL, and Oracle. The responsibilities include managing data storage, monitoring device usage, ensuring data integrity, and implementing measures to enhance system performance. The administrator will also support cybersecurity efforts by creating and maintaining necessary policies and procedures to obtain and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO) status. Compliance activities will be a significant part of the role, including incident response, vulnerability scanning, and configuration management. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in a related field and have extensive experience in database management, particularly with Oracle and Microsoft technologies. The position requires an active Secret security clearance and a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification. The Senior Database Administrator will also be expected to handle complex issues and may act as a lead in certain situations, contributing to a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Senior Database Administrator for the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) and manage database environments in Oracle and MS SQL technologies.
  • Perform enterprise database administration and system administration on designated systems, including MS-SQL, My-SQL, and Oracle.
  • Manage data storage on devices and monitor usage using Government-approved software utilities.
  • Ensure data integrity using database management tools.
  • Implement measures to maintain and improve system performance.
  • Support the achievement of Acceptable Quality Levels, including issue notification timeliness.
  • Support cybersecurity by creating and maintaining required policies, procedures, and artifacts for ATOs.
  • Assist in compliance activities, including Incident Response, Vulnerability Scanning, and Configuration Management.
  • Handle complex issues and may act as a lead.

Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Master's degree in a directly related field and 7 years of experience, or a bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience, or an associate's degree with 11 years of experience, or 13 years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Computing Environment Certification: Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional or similar, Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar (can be achieved within 6 months of hire).
  • Experience managing Oracle databases including 11g and 12c.
  • Experience in Microsoft database technologies including SQL and Access.
  • Experience in performing in-place upgrades and SQL DB migrations from one vendor solution to another.
  • Expertise in Oracle, including installing and configuring multi-node server-side load balancing RAC databases on Red Hat Linux.
  • Experience with planning, design, implementation, and support of large Oracle database environments.
  • Experience setting up backup and recovery strategies, performance tuning, and troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Expertise in Microsoft database architecture, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
