About the position

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will manage and optimize the organization's databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. This role is critical for maintaining data integrity and supporting business operations, offering the opportunity to work with advanced technologies and contribute to the organization's growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain databases to ensure high performance, reliability, and security.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks for optimal system efficiency.
  • Create and maintain indexes to enhance query performance and overall database efficiency.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to develop backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into efficient database solutions.
  • Conduct regular database maintenance, including data purging, indexing, and tuning.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing effective solutions.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of database schemas, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Stay current with database technologies and trends, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
  • Collaborate with a California-based development team and offshore team members across various time zones.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on Amazon RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Proven track record in managing, optimizing, and securing cloud-based, enterprise-level databases on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS and familiarity with AWS tools and services related to database management and security.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) for automation and data manipulation within AWS environments.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, data modeling principles, and best practices for RDS database deployments on MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or comparable experience.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, such as MySQL, SQL Server, or Postgres.
  • Proficiency in database design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization techniques.
  • Solid understanding of data security and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud-based database solutions beyond AWS.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies.
