About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator is responsible for designing, modeling, configuring, testing, and installing databases independently. This role involves providing support services for database creation, performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning. The administrator will ensure database security, integrity, availability, and disaster recovery, while also resolving performance and capacity issues. The position requires collaboration with clients and technical staff to support applications and operational data needs, and may involve leading projects and mentoring other SQL DBAs.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements complex and large databases supporting enterprise systems.
• Performs all aspects of database management including installation, patching, backup and recovery, performance and tuning, security administration and space management.
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Deliver expertise in MS SQL database technology.
• Perform daily health checks and ensure recovery strategies are functioning.
• Troubleshoot, identify and resolve database issues in a timely manner.
• Provide off-hours on-call support and work in unison with system engineers.
• Take responsibility for performance and health of all company databases.
• Support all software development life-cycle database environments.
• Collaborate with solution architects to devise enterprise level data strategies.
• Mentor development teams and assist with new and existing data interfaces.
• Enforce naming, coding, design, deployment and security standards.
• Enhance current methods, policies, procedures and processes.
• Produce high quality documentation.

Requirements

• Expert as a SQL DBA in a SQL Server 2012 or higher environment.
• Ability and willingness to provide off-hours on-call support.
• Strong analysis, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Excellent command of T-SQL programming.
• Experience in a high transaction volume, 24x7, VLDB, enterprise database environment.
• Excellent understanding of SQL clustering.
• Expert with log shipping, database snapshots and mirroring.
• Can support data synchronization across multiple environments.
• Understanding of database security and access.
• Knowledge of data modeling techniques and tools.
• Ability to excel in a large, fast-paced database environment.
• Fortitude to enforce, practice and improve database standards and deployment processes.
• Performance tuning and indexing expertise including execution plan analysis.
• Experience administering transactional replication a plus.
• Working experience with Reporting Services a plus.
