About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator at The Plymouth Rock Company, you will play a crucial role in the migration, maintenance, and support of various database platforms. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including software development and data warehousing, to ensure the efficient operation of database systems. You will be responsible for production on-call support and off-hour deployments, making this a dynamic and integral role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a Snowflake data warehouse and manage data replication from various sources.
  • Collaborate with the data warehouse team to implement ETLs.
  • Set up and maintain security and access control in Snowflake.
  • Develop data modeling and analysis, schema design, and create database objects such as tables and stored procedures.
  • Identify and evaluate technologies for building enterprise architecture services.
  • Analyze archiving approaches and assist in implementing chosen solutions.
  • Review and revise existing tables and indexing strategies to improve efficiency.
  • Assist with performance tuning for data pulls and queries, working closely with end-users.
  • Learn the data within the Data Warehouse and understand the integration of Policy, Quotes, Claims, and Billing.
  • Proactively identify issues and coordinate resolutions.
  • Support programmers during development by providing guidance and answering questions.
  • Analyze problems and propose solutions to meet architectural challenges.
  • Participate in unit, system, user, and performance testing.
  • Familiarity with version control for user-level tasks.
  • Installation, maintenance, and on-call support.

Requirements

  • Working experience in ETL/ELT products such as Fivetran, DBT, or Informatica.
  • Experience managing data warehouses and data lakes, particularly on Snowflake and AWS S3.
  • Proficient in setting up security and access controls in Snowflake.
  • 5+ years of hands-on database experience with DB2/UDB and SQL Server.
  • Experience with AWS RDS, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and Redis databases.
  • Understanding of proper indexing and experience with query tuning.
  • Knowledge of DB2 Range Partitioning, MDC, and MQT.
  • Familiarity with UDB/AIX utilities such as backup, reorg, runstats, and rebind.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and MS SQL Server reorganization and update statistics.
  • Experience with AWS DMS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze existing configurations and recommend improvements.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
