About the position

The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing database systems, particularly in AWS environments. This role involves extensive experience with Oracle databases, cloud technologies, and database automation. The position requires a strong focus on performance tuning, disaster recovery, and ensuring high availability of database services. The successful candidate will work closely with various teams to implement best practices and provide technical expertise in database management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize database systems, particularly in AWS environments.
  • Perform database automation in AWS with RDS and Lambda using Python.
  • Conduct maintenance, enhancement, and design of data dictionaries and database models.
  • Provide database support for business applications and schedule backup jobs.
  • Manage access control and compliance for database accounts.
  • Perform data purging and replication activities, both on-demand and automated.
  • Respond to database alerts and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting for databases.
  • Implement database security and auditing features, conducting periodic reviews.
  • Plan and develop processes for database updates and migrations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA with expertise in design, implementation, backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • 5+ years of experience with multiple AWS DB Services and Lambda for automating database jobs.
  • Expertise in database automation in AWS with RDS and Lambda using Python, preferably with Oracle, Postgres, and AuroraDB.
  • Strong knowledge of high-availability database features, replication, and disaster recovery.
  • Proficiency with cloud-specific technologies such as S3, Route 53, CloudFormation, and AWS RDS.
  • Experience with database security, backup retention policies, and scaling databases.
  • Ability to manage the full life cycle of database schema design and implementation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with version control tools like Git.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
