About the position

TCW is investing in multi-year technology and data initiatives, and the Sr. Database Administrator will play an important role in the success of the firm's data processing. The Sr. Database Administrator will administer and optimize data platforms across our hybrid environment. This includes local SQL Server databases as well as Snowflake and Azure Cloud databases. The incumbent will provide best practices to implement SQL server and Snowflake features, processing, and ETL data movement. General responsibilities will include deploying migrations, ensuring server health, troubleshooting, applying service packs/hot fixes, managing and monitoring server activities/processes, and performing database maintenance tasks. Other responsibilities will include providing developers design guidance, best practices, and design consideration for SQL Server and Snowflake related technologies. In addition to the administrative duties, the Sr. Database Administrator must be a self-starter in developing process improvement plans and solutions including cloud cost optimization and data resiliency, archiving, and backup strategies across platforms. The role requires a continuous improvement mindset, and the incumbent is expected to perform research and make recommendations on new software, code/software upgrades, and updates to policies and procedures for database code migration, data security management, and disaster recovery planning and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform database monitoring and troubleshooting using Solarwinds DPA, Dynatrace, and vendor monitoring tools.
  • Plan, commission, and deploy Database System changes.
  • Manage and monitor ETL processes (Bryteflow, SQL Server change tracking, SQL Server Replication, DBT).
  • Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security.
  • Respond to database backup/restore, security/change management, and deployment requests.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Design, implement, and support SQL Server product family and technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 7+ years working with MS SQL Server 2016 and newer, Snowflake, and Azure SQL as a Database Administrator.
  • 7+ years of experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience using TFS (or Git*) for code and time-management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Analysis Service (SSAS), Database warehouse, .NET, Windows scripting languages (PowerShell), Python, Networking, Active Directory, SAN Storage, SQL VMware implementations.
  • Experience with Hybrid Cloud migrations and implementations (Azure and Snowflake).
  • Snowflake (SnowPro Core, SnowPro SME).
  • Azure (Azure Database Admin Assoc, Azure Data Fundamentals).
  • MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications.
  • Experience with supporting terabyte and high transaction databases.
  • Experience working in the financial services industry.
  • Delphix experience.
