About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator at Uline, you will play a crucial role in supporting database solutions for North America's leading distributor of shipping, industrial, and packaging materials. This position is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Pleasant Prairie, WI, or Waukegan, IL, depending on the needs of the company. You will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to optimizing database performance and ensuring the reliability of our critical systems. Your expertise will help us maintain our reputation for incredible service and quality products, as we continue to grow and create new opportunities for our employees. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing database performance through various techniques, including indexing, query optimization, and database design. You will work closely with application development project teams to ensure that applications perform optimally, which is essential for our operations. Additionally, you will participate in high availability and disaster recovery tests of critical systems, ensuring that our databases and database objects are properly backed up and that recovery procedures are tested and documented. Your responsibilities will also include supporting databases and database applications, as well as upgrading and patching database management systems. As a project leader, you will mentor and guide the database administration team, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement. Your ability to work independently and lead by example will be key to your success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize database performance through techniques including indexing, query optimization, and database design.
  • Work closely with application development project teams to ensure optimal application performance.
  • Participate in high availability/disaster recovery tests of critical systems.
  • Ensure databases and database objects are properly backed up, and recovery procedures are tested and documented.
  • Support databases/database applications and upgrade and patch database management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the DB2-LUW Management System.
  • Proficient in replication technologies (e.g., CDC, Attunity) with a basic understanding of data modeling.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments and lead by example to guide and develop the database administration team.
