About the position

The Database Engineer position at PayPal involves supporting the database infrastructure needs of the PayPal site, focusing on database reliability, engineering, and automation. The role requires expertise in database administration, DevOps, and engineering, with opportunities to work on advanced technologies such as Oracle and GoldenGate Replication. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining database availability, implementing security policies, and automating routine tasks.

Responsibilities

• Triage incidences and identify root causes.
• Propose corrective/preventive actions and complete such actions.
• Develop scripts and other forms of automation for routine tasks.
• SQL review/tuning and suggest areas of improvements.
• Follow change management and security guidelines and execute critical change requests.
• Install, upgrade and patch databases.
• Document known solutions to enable faster rediscovery.
• Provide quality customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with a large team of DBAs, Operations groups, Capacity, and ETL team and share knowledge.
• Multi-task and prioritize without much supervision.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
• Strive to achieve PayPal's availability, performance and scalability goals.

Requirements

• Expert level in Python is a must.
• Experience with GitHub is required.
• Experience with Oracle Apex is a big plus.
• Strong understanding of database administration and engineering principles.
• Ability to automate tasks and develop scripts.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with GoldenGate Replication.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of security policies related to database management.
