About the position

The Senior Database Developer position is a critical role responsible for the design, development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of database solutions that support web applications for Sher-link projects. This position focuses primarily on Oracle database applications development, batch processing, and reporting. The developer will maintain and troubleshoot existing applications, adhering to standard coding practices and industry best practices. The role involves developing and maintaining solutions for new requests related to existing applications, resolving performance issues for all code released to production, and assisting with impact analyses of any changes made to database objects. Additionally, the developer will create design documentation and manage database versions of code using GIT. Participation in the complete system development life cycle is required, including post-implementation support. The Senior Database Developer will provide technical expertise to management and business users, collaborating closely with other developers to write optimized SQL queries for integration with various applications. This role is essential for ensuring that database solutions are efficient, scalable, and meet the business requirements of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business units to identify business requirements for requested projects.
  • Identify the technical requirements of projects.
  • Analyze all aspects of the projects.
  • Provide feasibility and cost/benefit analyses responses for proposed projects.
  • Plan and organize tasks, report on progress, coordinate with additional development teams.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  • Perform complex programming assignments requiring an advanced aptitude of established programming standards, methods, and best practices.
  • Design application and database components for development projects.
  • Perform analysis of business models, logical specifications, and/or customer requirements to design and build Internet solutions utilizing multiple technologies.
  • Mitigate significant risks associated with projects that have high technical complexity.
  • Guide full stack developers in design approaches and teach them to create performant queries.
  • Maintain and modify Sher-link applications, making approved changes and developing detailed programming logic.
  • Provide support for critical application problems and issues.
  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements and implement those improvements.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the discovery and investigation of critical production problems.
  • Proactively search for and make improvements on non-performant database programs.
  • Conduct research into modern technologies, including tools, components, and frameworks.
  • Train and knowledge share with development teams.
  • Mentor and coach developers and/or Professional Apprentices.
  • Make presentations to management, clients, and peer groups as requested.
  • Schedule and lead project and communication meetings.
  • Provide tier 2, on-call support for critical application problems and issues.
  • Analyze program performance and correct deficiencies based on user consultation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing OLTP database applications in Oracle 10g/11g and UNIX/LINUX/Solaris environments.
  • Experience with PL/SQL Types, PL/SQL Collections, SQL Loader, PL/SQL Functions and Procedures, Packages, Materialized views, Triggers, Complex SQLs, and SQL Reports.
  • Experience with PL/SQL techniques in LOBs, Multilingual character conversion, and Oracle Performance Tuning Techniques.
  • Experience developing UNIX scripts for batch processing and working with Oracle RAC clusters and Exadata systems.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
