About the position

The Senior Dean of Research and Planning plays a pivotal role in providing dynamic and effective leadership for districtwide research and planning efforts. This position is responsible for leading and coordinating research projects aimed at improving educational outcomes and institutional effectiveness. The Senior Dean will foster a culture of data-driven decision-making by promoting the use of data and evidence-based practices across the District. Additionally, the Senior Dean will set the districtwide research agenda and develop means to assess its effectiveness. The ideal candidate for this role will be proactive, forward-thinking, and possess excellent communication skills. They will value collaboration and understand how to effectively conduct business in a multi-college and participatory governance educational environment. The Senior Dean will coordinate all aspects of research at both the college and District levels, ensuring that college planning is seamlessly integrated with Districtwide planning. This includes close collaboration with college faculty and managers, working directly with faculty on classroom research, and engaging with faculty committees to create and assess student learning outcomes. Furthermore, the Senior Dean will assist in evaluating college and District programs and services, leading an effective Districtwide Office of Institutional Research. As the chair of the districtwide Research and Planning Committee, the Senior Dean will collaborate closely with college deans of institutional effectiveness and serve as the lead research and planning strategist and authority for the district. The role also involves active participation in state and national research and planning organizations, ensuring that the District remains at the forefront of educational research and planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Earned master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Equivalent to at least three (3) years of relevant full-time management experience.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver's License.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing comprehensive research projects.
  • Demonstrated success utilizing contemporary methods of standard statistical procedures.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address complex issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience participating in state and national level research and planning organizations.
  • Ability to collaborate with and effectively support faculty and staff leadership in planning, accreditation, and research inquiries.
  • Experience in a leadership role to conduct research in support of grant applications.
