About the position

The Senior Design Mechanical Engineer - Aerospace at Eaton's AER MSD Mission System Division will be responsible for the development, design, and testing of Stirling cycle cryogenic cooler components and assemblies. This role involves performing calculations related to cryogenic thermal design requirements, modeling detailed parts and assemblies, and supporting product design activities in alignment with project schedules. The engineer will also lead problem-solving efforts, manage multiple projects, and serve as a primary technical contact for various teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical design, analysis, and guidance for new product development and product improvements.
  • Lead and participate in efforts to solve problems with product design, inspection, manufacturing, and test encountered by vendors, operations, and customers.
  • Plan, organize, control, and lead multiple simultaneous projects, establishing and overseeing project objectives.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for multiple teams and liaison between Mechanical Engineering and internal and external customers.
  • Support targets and milestones for project budgets and schedules, participating in resolving program change of scope issues.
  • Create and/or guide the creation of technical documents, including Engineering drawings, test procedures, test reports, and design review material.
  • Ensure standardization of products and adherence to engineering processes across multiple projects.
  • Conduct component design studies and improvements for cost reduction and first-time yield.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.
  • Complete other duties assigned by resource manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in the aerospace industry with a thorough understanding of mechanical design and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and software programs used in their assessment (ANSYS).
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (dfM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.
  • Experience with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
