About the position

As a Senior Designer-Interiors at Gensler, you will play a pivotal role in merging creativity with technical expertise to create innovative, environmentally conscious, and budget-responsive spaces for our clients. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of design processes, from detailed programming and conceptual design to space planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. You will be expected to lead interior design assignments, providing strategically minded design support throughout the project lifecycle. Your ability to collaborate seamlessly with internal and external teams, including core & shell teams, professional consultants, and strategic partners, will be crucial in executing design projects effectively. In this role, you will engage in design iterations with your team, utilizing advanced modeling software such as Revit, SketchUp, and Enscape, alongside Adobe Creative Suite. You will also be responsible for generating interior architectural plans, elevations, and details, ensuring that all specifications and schedules align with the client's design and budgetary goals. Mentoring junior designers and guiding them through multiple projects will be a key aspect of your position, fostering a collaborative and high-level design environment. You will also contribute to office activities and help communicate key firm initiatives, promoting an inter-disciplinary design approach that enhances Gensler's culture of design quality and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interior design assignments including programming, conceptual design, space planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Provide strategically minded design support for the organization, production, and execution of design projects.
  • Collaborate with internal/external core & shell teams, professional consultants, and other strategic partners.
  • Participate in design iterations with team members using 3D modeling software such as Revit, SketchUp, and Enscape, along with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Generate interior architectural, finish, and reflected ceiling plans, elevations, and details, along with corresponding specifications and schedules.
  • Work with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators to meet design and budgetary goals.
  • Guide and mentor junior designers, assisting in leading multiple projects at a high level.
  • Contribute to office activities and communicate key firm initiatives and learning programs.
  • Promote and model an inter-disciplinary design approach that enhances Gensler's culture of design quality and excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design.
  • 10+ years of relevant interior design experience with a corresponding portfolio demonstrating various phases of project work.
  • NCIDQ certification required.
  • Ability to communicate and present design concepts and rationales effectively.
  • Experience with projects in workplace, hospitality, and mixed-use practice areas is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sustainable and universal design concepts.
  • Proficient in Revit, SketchUp, Enscape, and/or other modeling software.
  • Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and proper specifications and procurement.
  • Graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Flexibility to focus on a single client with multiple projects in various stages of development.
