About the position

The Senior Designer position involves working autonomously on complex civil design projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. The role requires the creation of detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for land development and site plans, ensuring compliance with client standards and relevant regulations. The designer will also develop 3D models, perform calculations, and provide technical support to other staff while maintaining client relationships and participating in team efforts to achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously on various projects, particularly those with high complexity and/or risk.
  • Utilize computer software to create detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for land development and site plans.
  • Develop 3D models of projects using horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, and various design criteria.
  • Calculate dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications, and material quantities.
  • Ensure design products are complete, accurate, and meet all relevant regulations and code requirements.
  • Review work of others for accuracy and compliance with client specifications.
  • Assist engineers in the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, schedules, and permitting for projects.
  • Provide technical support to other staff as a trainer and mentor.
  • Cooperate and coordinate with other engineers, designers, and technicians on project activities.
  • Assist with building, maintaining, and managing client relationships.
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings as needed.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years related civil design experience.
  • Associates degree in engineering studies or similar from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of principles of design, construction, engineering, building regulations, and design platforms and software.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Effective communication skills in verbal and written formats.
  • Mathematical skills to perform calculations and apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
