About the position

The Senior Desktop Support Analyst at the University of California Davis is responsible for providing advanced technical support and consultation to faculty, research staff, and students across various departments. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing IT service requests, and ensuring compliance with information security protocols. The analyst will also supervise student employees and contribute to the development of technical documentation and training materials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical support and consultation to faculty, research staff, and students.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Manage incidents and requests through IT Service Management systems.
  • Analyze, recommend, install, configure, and evaluate systems and tools for internal and end user use.
  • Develop and conduct tests of hardware and software, reporting on configurations and behavior.
  • Supervise student employees in providing technical support services.
  • Fulfill information security duties and manage compliance with security controls.

Requirements

  • Experience providing advanced technical support and consulting services to clients via various communication methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with IT Service Management systems and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and services such as DHCP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with scripting/automation languages like GNU BASH, Windows PowerShell, or Python.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for explaining technical materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in ITIL Foundations or similar IT Service Management methodology.
  • Experience with research and statistical software packages like Matlab or SPSS.
  • Experience managing multiple Linux operating systems and interoperation with other systems.
  • Familiarity with the IBM BigFix endpoint management platform.
