About the position

SS&C Technologies is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team in Kansas City or remotely. As a global provider of investment and financial services, we are committed to delivering top-notch solutions to our clients in the financial services and healthcare industries. This role is pivotal in setting up infrastructure and pipelines that support our developers, ensuring that our systems are robust, scalable, and efficient. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a passion for DevOps practices, including experience with tools such as Git, Ansible, Python, Docker, and various database technologies. In this position, you will partner with software and operations engineers to support a modern private cloud infrastructure that meets the demands of a global organization. You will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying services that support our enterprise cloud platform. Mentorship is also a key aspect of this role, as you will guide other software engineers in best practices for creating highly available systems. Your work will involve integrating with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, virtual machines, and backend services, as well as building observability dashboards to monitor the health of our ecosystem. We value critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and we are looking for someone who is a fast learner and can adapt to new technologies quickly. Good communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with various stakeholders across the organization. Responsibilities

  • Partner with software and operations engineers to support a modern private cloud that can handle the requirements for a global company
  • Design, build, and deploy services supporting our enterprise cloud platform
  • Mentor other software engineers around patterns and practices for highly available systems
  • Integrate with CI/CD, Kubernetes, VMs, backend services, and managed-service offerings
  • Build and maintain observability dashboards to monitor the overall health of the ecosystem
  • Build common components for reuse across the organization, maintaining documentation, demo applications, and reviewing pull requests
  • Work closely with our support team and user community to promote best practices for cloud adoption

Requirements

  • Engineering degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of development experience (Java, Go, Python, or other languages)
  • A solid foundation in object-oriented and cloud-native design
  • Experience in writing HTTP services in higher-level languages (e.g., Java/Spring, Go)
  • Experience with relational and document databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Experience learning new open-source software, APIs, and frameworks
  • Exposure to automated testing, modern CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Familiar with bash, Git, JIRA, and agile methodologies
  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, or relevant field

  • Experience in developing/engineering applications for a company
