About the position

The State Street Cyber Architecture & Engineering team is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their ranks. This role is pivotal in delivering architectural solutions, platforms, pipelines, and security tooling to secure State Street's digital footprint. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in secure configuration management practices and system hardening standards, along with experience in development using one or more scripting languages. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to learning and growth in technical solutioning, and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting agile solutions and processes that are utilized by a wide array of applications and infrastructure platforms within our environments. In this position, you will be tasked with creating and managing automation pipelines and toolsets for Secure Configuration management. This includes developing or maintaining custom drift detection solutions for the configuration management program, as well as creating custom solutions using technologies such as Chef Inspec and shell scripting for hardening and monitoring non-standard systems. You will also support AWS-based infrastructure or SaaS solutions that drive the configuration management program, evaluate new technologies and vendor products, and execute Proof of Concept activities to validate proposed solutions. Your responsibilities will extend to delivering tasks based on project objectives, ensuring that deliverables are completed within target timeframes and are of high quality, well-documented, and support the transition of operational activities. Additionally, you will conduct risk assessments based on the NIST framework for critical assets and develop security guidelines, policies, and procedures related to the Secure Configuration framework. Collaboration with other engineers will be essential as you promote software and platform configuration best practices across the organization, designing solutions that prioritize monitoring, auditing, reliability, and security. You will work closely with stakeholders and teaming partners throughout the systems implementation lifecycle to understand enterprise requirements and develop holistic technical solutions that are both unique and optimally positioned.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and managing automation pipelines and toolsets for Secure Configuration management.
  • Creating or maintaining custom drift detection solutions for the configuration management program.
  • Developing custom solutions using technologies like Chef Inspec, shell scripting, etc., for hardening and monitoring non-standard systems.
  • Supporting the AWS-based infrastructure or SaaS solutions driving the configuration management program.
  • Evaluating new technologies and vendor products.
  • Executing Proof of Concept activities to validate the efficacy of proposed solutions.
  • Delivering tasks based on project objectives and technically supporting projects through to completion.
  • Ensuring deliverables are completed within target timeframes and are consistently of high quality, documented, and support transition of operational activities.
  • Conducting risk assessments based on the NIST framework for critical assets.
  • Developing security guidelines, policies, and procedures pertaining to the Secure Configuration framework.
  • Collaborating with other engineers to promote software and platform configuration best practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT), computer science, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience in industry, government, or consulting roles.
  • Proven technical solutioning experience with current and emerging technologies including Agile Development, DevOps, System Hardening, DevSecOps, Cybersecurity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects or priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of personnel (executive to entry level).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or related field with 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Deep experience with cloud DevOps tooling and expertise in container native systems and associated security and scaling considerations.
  • Experience working or developing Kubernetes autoscaling tools and deep experience with container and cloud security principles.
  • Experience with Information Security: applying STIGs, IAVAs, CIS hardening guidelines and maintaining/updating security documentation and systems security plans.
  • Security+ or other cybersecurity or network security certification.
  • Experience using common automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.
  • Experience with one or more common programming languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
