About the position

The Senior DevOps/Linux Systems Engineer at Freeform will play a critical role in building and managing the IT infrastructure necessary for deploying software-defined, autonomous metal 3D printing factories. This position involves architecting and deploying IT solutions to support a heterogeneous computing environment that processes large volumes of data and integrates with a hybrid cloud platform. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, focusing on building scalable and resilient systems while collaborating with various teams to ensure operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Build highly resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible IT systems
  • Design, implement, manage, document & troubleshoot compute and storage environments to support ML, big data, and Kubernetes workloads
  • Design and implement data management and archiving systems
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery processes
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the health, performance, and availability of systems and applications
  • Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain security best practices
  • Maintain and administer hybrid cloud infrastructure
  • Manage networking and firewall hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot various technical issues across operating systems and hardware
  • Operate under tight timelines and limited resources, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in IT Linux systems engineering
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Github Actions or CircleCI
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack
  • Linux scripting/automation experience using shell, bash, Python, or similar language

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working for an engineering company and building IT infrastructure for software or hardware engineers
  • Experience with VMware deployment clusters and high availability
  • Knowledge of best practices around data security and implementation
  • Experience scoping, implementing, and partitioning physical and virtual servers in an enterprise environment
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to participate in after-hours, on-call support for computer, network, and phone issues
  • Experience setting up and supporting a remote work environment for offsite employees
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, IT, information systems, math, physics, or similar technical discipline
